Dear Dharma Friends,
Tuesday 12/5 7 PM Chenrezig and Amitabha sadhanas.
Chenrezig or Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In this liturgy we meditate on Chenrezig and recite his mantra, both of which helps us develop compassion for all living beings. It is taught that without compassion for others, enlightenment is impossible. Thus the Chenrezig sadhana is central to our practice.
We practice shamata meditation to overcome mental wandering, distraction and inattention and to develop stability and a sharp, focused mind. We practice tonglen as a way to develop love and compassion for others. In tonglen (sending and receiving meditation) we seek to take upon ourselves the difficulties and sufferings of all living beings and send them our happiness and virtue.
