We welcome you to the website for Albany Karma Thegsum Chöling.
Albany Karma Thegsum Chöling (KTC) is a Tibetan Buddhist Study and Meditation Center providing authentic teachings and practices of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Karma Theksum Chöling means “Dharma Center of the Three Vehicles of the Karma Kagyu”. The three vehicles are the foundational vehicle of the hinayana, the compassionate and profound vehicle of the mahayana, and the swift, ultimate path of the vajrayana.
Albany KTC is affiliated with Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, NY, the principal seat of the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, in North America. The Karmapa is the supreme head of the Kagyu lineage and his spiritual representative is Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.
Our regular schedule includes basic meditation practice, with free instruction available for newcomers. Tranquility meditation is combined with walking meditation and a compassion practice (tong len). We also do ritual practices of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion; Buddha Amitabha; Green Tara; and Guru Rinpoche, the second Buddha of Uddiyana.
Albany KTC is fortunate to have our own resident Lama (teacher), Lama Zopa. Lama Zopa, a graduate of two Karma Kagyu Buddhist three year retreats, gives regular teachings. Senior students also lead study groups on Buddhist texts. In addition, Buddhist teachers from around the world visit each year.
Visitors are welcome at most of our programs!
